Aircraft Interiors Expo 2016: Airbus reveals full-scale cabin mock-up of A330neo, showcasing new “Airspace by Airbus” cabin brand

Airbus showcases its new cabin innovations at this years’ Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany – the world’s largest event dedicated to the aircraft interiors industry, in-flight entertainment, connectivity and passenger services. At the centre stage, visitors to the Airbus stand will be able to experience for the very first time the new Airspace by Airbus cabin interior of the A330neo demonstrated by our full-scale cabin mock-up. The new cabin brand encompasses four key attributes: Comfort, Ambience, Service and Design. Airspace cabins will thus be more relaxing, inspiring, functional and beautiful, which will stimulate a unique and leading passenger experience.

Visitors will also be able to experience the innovation highlights of our other aircraft programmes, in full immersive 3D virtual reality. In addition, they will be able to test and feel the different levels of comfort standards in Economy class using our specially configured Cabin Comfort Demonstrator.

For the latest in A320 Family cabin comfort, Airbus is also showcasing its new pivoting overhead stowage compartment mock-up as well as its *SFE seat offering. Now delivered and entering service shortly, the new pivoting stowage option takes full advantage of the A320’s wide fuselage cross section offering 60% more stowage. Aesthetically, the new bin option embodies a modern curved appearance of those in the new A350 XWB airliner.

Airbus’ space-efficient concepts go beyond new products: Airbus Upgrade Services will present its range of retrofit solutions and services.

For the media attending the show, our cabin experts and executives will be available for dedicated briefings and interview opportunities each day. The Expo’s trade media will also be hosted at our dedicated Airbus cabin press briefing to be held on Tuesday April 5th at 09h00.

Frontier Airlines, headquartered in Denver, Colorado (U.S.), has placed a firm order for 10 A321 and two A320 aircraft. All 12 aircraft are current engine option (ceo) aircraft. This is the second time in less than a year that the airline has ordered the A321, the largest member of the Airbus A320 Family. Including this order announced today, Frontier has a backlog of 101 Airbus single-aisle aircraft. Their current in-service fleet consists of 55 A320 Family aircraft (34 A319s and 21 A320s).

“This announcement paves the way for us to grow, modernize and renew our fleet while helping us build a strong foundation for the future,” said Barry Biffle, President, Frontier Airlines. “We remain focused on our Low Fares Done Right business model for long-term success and we look forward to working with Airbus to achieve it.”

“With every flight of an Airbus aircraft, our customers gather feedback from their passengers and employees, and those customers become repeat customers when they realize the A320 Family optimizes every aspect an aircraft has to offer,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer – Customers. “As we have continued to evolve the efficiency of each of our aircraft families, customers such as Frontier have been paying attention, and know that growing their Airbus fleet is the best investment in their future.”

CIT Group Inc. (NYSE: CIT), a global leader in transportation finance has placed a firm order for five more A321ceo aircraft, in effect doubling its most recent commitment for five A321ceo’s signed at the 2014 Farnborough International Airshow and firmed up in November 2014.

Azul orders 35 A320neo

Azul Brazilian Airlines has signed a purchase agreement for 35 A320neo Family aircraft. The airline, which is also leasing another 28 A320neo aircraft, has chosen the A320neo Family to carry out domestic long haul flights and high density routes, including Campinas – Salvador and Campinas – Recife. For Azul, an important driver for selecting the A320neo was the aircraft’s low operating costs and excellent fuel efficiency.  Azul has selected CFM engines for their A320neo fleet.

“Azul is an airline that truly serves all of Brazil. With more than 100 destinations , Azul will soon offer even more seats on our longer haul flights, allowing us to reduce operating costs,” said David Neeleman, CEO and Founder of Azul. “In addition to its market leading economics, which will allow Azul to stimulate new demand, the A320neo is also a perfect complement to our E-Jet fleet, giving us additional seats and capacity that can be dedicated to strategic projects like TudoAzul, Azul Viagens and Azul Cargo.”

“Airbus welcomes Azul to the A320 Family and is proud that they will rely on the A320neo’s unbeatable productivity and fuel efficiency to expand their services,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “We are pleased that Azul recognizes Airbus’ commitment to Brazil and the importance of operating the high performance A320neo in key airports such as Santos Dumont in Rio. This order truly underscores the leading position of the A320neo in the single aisle market.”

In April, Azul announced that it would start operating long haul flights by early December. The airline expects to fly new international routes with a fleet of 12 leased wide body Airbus aircraft, including seven Airbus A330-200 and later five Airbus A350-900 equipped with Rolls-Royce engines.

Airbus has obtained regulatory approval for training of A350 XWB airline pilots in accordance with the original goal of an A330/A350 “Common Type Rating” (CTR). This will enable Azul pilots to benefit from reduced training time in the transition from one Airbus jetliner model to another, resulting in significant benefits for airline profitability, pilot productivity and scheduling flexibility.‎

The A320 Family is the world’s best-selling single aisle product line with almost 11,000 orders to date and over 6,200 aircraft delivered to 400 customers and operators worldwide. Thanks to its widest cabin, all members of the A320 Family offer the industry’s best level of comfort in all classes and Airbus’ 18” wide seats in economy as standard. The newest member of the A320 Family, the A320neo, incorporates new generation engines and Sharklets (wing tip devices) which together deliver more than 15 percent in fuel savings. Firm orders for the NEO reached over 3,200 aircraft from 60 customers, representing a 60 percent market share in its category.
