The Caltex Socceroos have surged up seven places in the latest FIFA rankings released for October.
Ange Postecoglou’s side are now 43rd in the World after they were in 50th spot in the September release.
The rise follows Australia’s recent World Cup Qualification play-off matches against Syria, with the Socceroos earning a 1-1 draw and a 2-1 extra-time victory over the two legs.
The Socceroos are now the second highest ranked side in Asia behind only Iran (34th).
In the AFC, Japan are third in 44th spot followed by China (57th) and Korea Republic (62nd).
Germany maintained top spot in the world rankings, with Brazil and Portugal remaining in second and third respectively.
Peru, who are set to play New Zealand in a World-Cup qualification play-off next month, jumped to 10th in the World.
New Zealand are currently 122nd in the rankings.
