Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The average number of economically active population in January-June 2017 in Uzbekistan made up 14.162 million people or 43.9% of the total population.
The number of employed people in the economy in January-June 2017, according to preliminary data, reached 13.421 million people and increased compared to 2016 by 1.7%, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.
The level of employment of the economically active population (the ratio of the number of employed in the economy to the economically active population) in January-June 2017 was 94.8%.
In general, the share of employed in non-state sector reached 82.1% compared to 81.8% in January-June 2016.
A significant increase in number of employees compared to last year is observed in transportation and storage (3.3%), construction (2.8%), information and communication (2.6%), accommodation and food services (2.1%).
The largest share in total number of employees is in agriculture, forestry and fishery (27.0%), industry (13.6%), trade (10.6%), construction (9.2%) and education (8.3% %).
Also, in January-June 2017, the share of employed in small business (business) was 77.7% of total number of employed in the economy (77.4% in January-June 2016).
The number of citizens registered with the labor authorities as job seekers at the end of June amounted to 8,300 people, which is 42.7% more than at the end of June 2016 (5,800 people).
In January-June 2017, the number of unemployed people, defined by the procedure for calculating the unemployed population in need of employment, approved by Government Decree No. 106 from May 24, 2007, was 741,400 people, and accordingly the unemployment rate is 5.2% of the economically active of the population.
