Government to develop 3-yr strategic plan for water and sanitation

The Government is to develop a three-year strategic plan for the water and

sanitation sector this year, Joseph Kofi Adda, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources has said.

 

This, he noted, would go a long way to improve on the sanitation and water

system in the country as they still pose a major challenge.

 

Mr. Adda was speaking at the opening of the 2017 Annual Review

Conference of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) in

Kumasi on Friday.

 

The five-day conference, under the theme, “Rural Water and Sanitation Services Provision: Current Role of the CWSA, GAPS, and the Way Forward for

Effective and Sustainable Delivery”, was to deliberate on the 2016 Report of

CWSA and draw programmes for the agency for this year (2017).

 

According to Mr. Adda, government was arranging a stakeholders’ discussion

on how to come up with the strategic plan.

 

“In a couple of weeks from now, we are going to hold the biggest stakeholders’

session to put together, through a wide approach programme, a three-year

strategic plan on water and sanitation to help create a path for the gradual

solution of our water and sanitation problem,” Mr. Adda indicated.

 

Mr. Adda noted that, there was goodwill on the part of the President, Nana

Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta as well as

donor sponsors and so there should be a well laid plan to help

successfully fight the country’s poor sanitation and water problem.

 

The chief executive of CSWA, Ing. Worlanyo Kwadjo Siabe pledged the

Agency’s support to government determination to provide good water and

sanitation for the people to make the country a better place to live in.

 

He said the Agency had positioned itself well to find sustainable solutions to

water and sanitation problems, “however, we will count on government’s

support for logistics and subventions.”

 

“If we are given the needed resources, CWSA is capable of finding solutions to other problems confronting the water and sanitation sector in the country,” Mr. Siabe noted.

Kante claims Premier League Player of the Year Award

CHELSEA midfielder N’Golo Kante has been named the Premier League Player of the Season.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a superb first year at Stamford Bridge and has already been awarded the PFA and Football Writers’ Association prizes for his performances.

Kante won the most combined votes from a panel of experts, captains of Premier League clubs and a public ballot.

He beat fellow nominees Eden Hazard, Cesar Azpilicueta, Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to the prize.

“It’s a huge honour to be named player of the year by such big names in football and I want to thank everyone who voted for me,” Kante told the Premier League’s official website.

“I work hard in training, I try to give my best and I work with so many very good players; that’s why we won the league two times.

“We played many good games but we won 5-0 against Everton, which was a very beautiful game, and also my goal against Manchester United [in a 4-0 win]; it is always good to score and I am happy for these two games.”

Kante was a key component of Leicester City’s shock title win last season and has been a driving force behind Chelsea’s triumph in 2016-17.

He is only the second player to claim back-to-back top-flight titles with different clubs in England, after Mark Schwarzer, who did so with Chelsea in 2014-15 and Leicester the following year. – Goal.com

Le Ministre Ivoirien de l’Agriculture et du développement rural a, en sa qualité de Président en exercice de la conférence des Ministres Région Afrique pour la FAO, a séjourné en Afrique du Sud du 15 au 20 mai dernier.

Plusieurs temps forts ont marqué cette visite dans le pays de Nelson Mandela. Lors de sa visite, le ministre Mamadou Sangafowa COULIBALY a, eu une séance de travail avec le Directeur Exécutif du NEPAD, SEM Ibrahim Assane MAYAKI. Les deux personnalités ont passé en revue les défis de l’Agriculture en Afrique et abordé quelques perspectives pour rehausser ce secteur moteur de l’économie de bien de pays africains. Il en ressort de cet entretien, que le NEPAD mettra à disposition du Ministre Ivoirien de l’agriculture un document de plaidoyer auprès des chefs d’Etat Africains pour des financements publics plus conséquente dans le secteur agricole.

Ensuite, il intégrera et apportera son appui technique et financier à l’initiative pour l’Adaptation de l’Agriculture Africaine (AAA) aux changements climatiques.

par ailleurs, M. Ibrahim Assane MAYAKI a engagé son institution à apporter à la Côte d’Ivoire, une assistance technique dans formulation et la mobilisation des ressources du PNIA deuxième génération dont la table ronde est prévue en marge du SARA.

En plus, le NEPAD a accepté de faire partie du partenariat qui lie la Côte d’Ivoire au chocolatier Mars pour la conception et la création de l’académie mondiale du chocolat à Abidjan, projet cher au Ministre SANGAFOWA.

Outre les questions liées au suivi des décisions de la 29ème conférence de la FAO, le Ministre SANGAFOWA-COULIBALY a mis son séjour à profit pour définir avec son homologue Sud Africain les moyens de renforcer la coopération entre les deux pays dans le domaine agricole. En effet, les deux hommes se sont accordés sur le fait que l’Afrique du Sud, puissance agricole africaine et la Côte d’Ivoire, puissance agricole ouest-africaine, se donnent la main pour rehausser le potentiel du secteur agricole et, à terme de parvenir à l’autonomisation du continent et à une meilleure redistribution de la richesse à travers la chaîne de valeur. Pour le matérialiser, un accord de coopération agricole renforcé sera signé entre les deux pays en marge du SARA dont l’Afrique du Sud est le pays à l’honneur.

Ainsi, au terme de plusieurs audiences, séances de travail et conférences avec le Ministère Sud Africain de l’Agriculture, le NEPAD et le secteur Privé, quatre entreprises Sud Africaines œuvrant dans le domaine de l’agro-industrie bénéficieront de l’appui du Ministère Ivoirien de l’agriculture pour investir dans la production et la transformation du manioc, de la noix de cajou, des fruits et légumes, des maraîchers et de la mangue. Ce sont au total des milliers d’hectares et une dizaine d’unités de transformation primaire pour un investissement privé total de près 200 Milliards de FCFA qui permettront une production additionnelle de 1000000 de tonnes et la création de 10000 emplois directs, dès cette année et jusqu’à fin 2019. En plus, plus d’une trentaine d’entreprises ont manifesté leur intérêt à participer au prochain SARA en vue de rechercher et nouer des partenariats avec leurs homologues Ivoiriens et ceux de la sous région.

Notons que l’une des principales région agricole de l’Afrique du Sud , La région du LIMPOPO sera l’invitée spéciale du Ministre Ivoirien de l’agriculture au SARA pour partager en marge du SARA avec les Présidents des régions de Côte d’Ivoire le modèle Sud Africain de contribution des régions au développement rural.

La deuxième édition du Forum de la Diaspora Ivoirienne, organisée par le Ministère des l’Intégration africaine et des ivoiriens de l’extérieur en collaboration avec la Direction Générale des ivoiriens de l’extérieur (DGIE) se tient du lundi 22 au mardi 23 mai, au Sofitel Hôtel Ivoire d’Abidjan, autour du thème : « diaspora ivoirienne, 32è région de la Côte d’Ivoire, quelles réponses africaines au phénomène de l’immigration irrégulière ?»

La cérémonie d’ouverture de ce forum a été présidée par le Premier ministre, .M. Amadou Gon Coulibaly, en présence de plusieurs membres du Gouvernement, de diplomates, décideurs, représentants de l’Union Européenne, experts de toutes disciplines, membres de la société civile, leaders des organisations internationales.

L’objectif du présent forum, c’est d’animer la réflexion et la concertation entre toutes ces personnalités venues de divers horizons pour apporter leurs expériences en la matière.

Eu égard au potentiel d’épargne considérable que représente l’ensemble des diasporas ivoiriennes, il faut trouver des mécanismes propres à valoriser cette épargne. Il y a donc lieu de sécuriser leurs investissements dans leur pays d’origine, où, trop souvent des amis et ou des parents ont abusé de leur confiance.
C’est l’un des enjeux de ce forum. La nécessité de promouvoir l’investissement productif de la part des ivoiriennes et ivoiriens de la diaspora par la mise en place d’instruments financiers adaptés.
Selon le ministre de l’Intégration Africaine et des Ivoiriens de l’Extérieur, M. Ally Coulibaly, « plus d’une fois, des Ivoiriens de la diaspora me l’ont dit : si des pays africains ont réussi à le faire. Pourquoi pas la Côte d’Ivoire ? »

Ce pourquoi, il a donné l’assurance du Gouvernement de tout mettre en œuvre pour trouver les outils permettant d’appuyer les projets pertinents, et ce, avec l’appui des partenaires au développement. Le Fonds Fiduciaire est une solution illustrative.

En outre, face à l’impasse de la réalité de l’immigration irrégulière, à savoir qu’en l’espace de quelques mois, plus de 13 000 présumés ivoiriens auraient été accueillis sur les côte ivoiriennes (Ambassade d’Italie), le ministre Aly Coulibaly a affiché la position de la Côte d’Ivoire qui se refuse de pratiquer la politique de l’autruche, à savoir, une attitude commode de nier ce fait.

« Tout au contraire, le Gouvernement Ivoirien a donné des gages de volonté de coopérer avec l’Italie en vue de trouver une solution concertée, la seule qui vaille aujourd’hui. En lien avec les autorités italiennes, le Gouvernement a diligenté une enquête pour situer l’ampleur réelle du phénomène » a indiqué Aly Coulibaly.
Notons que l’idée de l’organisation du Forum de la diaspora ivoirienne est née du mot d’ordre du Président Alassane Ouattara, depuis le 26 mai 2011, date à laquelle, il a lancé un appel à la diaspora ivoirienne à s’impliquer davantage dans le développement social et économique de la Côte d’Ivoire.

Production of Forest Assortments increased in BiH

Total production of forest assortments in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in 1st quarter of 2017 increased for 1,06%, compared to the same period in 2016. Production of coniferous (softwood) assortments is lower for 1,62% while the production of broadleaf (hardwood) assortments increases for 3,60%.

Production of coniferous logs is 0,49% lower while production of broadleaf logs records increase of 5,99%. Increase in production of 25,40%, compared to 1st quarter of 2016, was recorded in production of coniferous mining wood and in production of other broadleaf long wood of 17,19%.

The rise in production was also recorded to broadleaf cordwood of 16,21%. Production decrease was recorded in production of broadleaf mining wood of 41,29%, in production of other coniferous long wood of 2,30% and in production of coniferous cordwood of 11,46%.

Rise in production is also recorded to coniferous fuelwood of 1,06%. Other roughly worked wood and coniferous fuelwood are produced in small quantities and changes in produced quantities do not affect variations in total production of forest assortments.

‘No pressure’ on Ajax ahead of Europa League final against Manchester United

Coalition with ChristenUnie is the only option, chief negotiator says

MPs from the Liberal democratic party D66 and the minor Christian party ChristenUnie will meet on Tuesday to discuss forming a coalition with the ruling VVD and the Christian Democrats. Edith Schippers, who is in charge of the cabinet negotiations, told reporters on Monday afternoon that a combination of the four parties is the only option for a majority cabinet. With both the Socialists and the Labour party ruling themselves out of the talks, there is no other option open, Schippers said. The Netherlands has been without a government since the March 15 general election. Talks with the VVD, CDA, D66 and left-wing greens GroenLinks collapsed a week ago. D66 leader Alexander Pechtold has said he sees no point in an alliance with ChristenUnie because the two parties have widely differing views on ethical questions. In particular, D66 backs assisted suicide for elderly people who consider their lives to be complete and an opt-out register of organ donors. The four party combine would also only have a one-seat majority in both houses of parliament.
