Perth Glory 3-1 Brisbane Roar FC- Hyundai A-League 2016/2017

Perth Glory put their recent form slump to rest with a morale-boosting 3-1 win over Brisbane Roar at nib Stadium on Saturday night.

The home side scored twice in the final 25 minutes to reclaim fifth spot and snap a four-game winless run.

Both sides looked dangerous during a frenetic first 10 minutes with Adam Taggart shaving the woodwork and Jamie Maclaren drawing a sharp save from Liam Reddy.

Glory did take a goal into the break courtesy of a fine looping header from Richard Garcia in the 35th minute, only for Roar to draw level through a deflected Brett Holman effort shortly after the restart.

Maclaren spurned a pair of opportunities to hand the visitors the advantage and they were made to pay as Andy Keogh and returning captain Rostyn Griffiths both struck in the space of 10 minutes.

The win revives Glory’s outside chances of a top four berth, although they’ll need to either beat Melbourne City by four or win and hope Brisbane lose heavily to Wellington Phoenix.

GOALS

1-0 Glory: Garcia, 35’

From Castro’s deep right-sided cross, Garcia managed to skilfully loop a long-range header over Jamie Young and into the top corner.

1-1 Roar: Holman, 57’

Brisbane worked it left to Holman, who cut inside and saw his heavily-deflected effort dip inside the far post.

2-1 Glory: Keogh, 67’

Andy Keogh peeled off at the far post as Josh Risdon drove forward, with the fullback’s curling cross volleyed home first-time by the Irish striker.

3-1 Glory: Griffiths, 76’

Off the bench and immediately into the action, the Glory skipper made the most of his time on the edge of the area by curling a peach of a finish inside the far post.
