Quem assiste ao Big Brother Brasil no Multishow?

Quem assiste?

Pedras no caminho

A nova moda do nome e sobrenome no futebol

b6153-3

iStock

Milos Degenek made his J-League debut for Yokohama F. Marinos over the weekend.

Milos Degenek made his J-League debut for Yokohama F. Marinos over the weekend.

Caltex Socceroos defender Milos Degenek was given an early reminder of the importance of learning Japanese in his J-League debut on Saturday.

Degenek played 90 minutes in Yokohama F. Marinos’ dramatic 3-2 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds in the opening round of the 2017 J-League season.

The centre-back joined Marinos in January, ending a five-year stint in Germany where he most recently played for 1860 Munich in the 2. Bundesliga.

While Marinos prevailed in a topsy-turvy contest with Urawa thanks to Naoki Maeda’s goal in second-half stoppage time, Degenek wasn’t particularly happy with his own performance and took full responsibility for the second goal conceded by his team.

The 22-year-old allowed Urawa striker Rafael Silva to get in behind him and head past goalkeeper Hiroki Iikura and admitted afterwards that he hadn’t understood his team-mate’s instructions.

It was a stark reminder of the communication barrier Degenek must overcome to thrive in Japan.

“It’s obvious. I come here, I speak English, most of the players don’t speak such good English and I need to learn Japanese,” the Australian told reporters.

“If I learn Japanese then these things don’t happen.”

Degenek added: “It was my mistake. Yeah, it’s a bit difficult with the language and I don’t know what Hiro [Iikura] said but it was my mistake.

“I should look where the player is, but I will look at the game and analyse the game and look to go forward.”

Silva’s header was the Brazilian’s second goal in as many minutes as Urawa took the lead away from home.

But Marinos hit back late in the match with Hugo Vieira equalising in the 85th minute before Maeda secured victory in the 92nd.

Degenek insisted he will get better as the J-League campaign progresses and explained he has already begun to learn some basic football parlance in Japanese.

“I’ve just learnt the basics,” he said.

“Like ‘right’, ‘left’, ‘behind you’, ‘danger’, ‘time’ and just basic things I need for football but obviously in a game it’s a lot faster and you need to be able to communicate.

“I know three languages and now I still need to think of the Japanese. It’s the fourth language.

“Sometimes I say things in German or English on the field and I’m like ‘nobody understands you, who are you talking to?'”

Degenek’s next opportunity to prove himself in the J-League will come on Saturday when Marinos host Consadole Sapporo.

Football Federation Australia starts detailed work on ownership models and expansion

ANZ Stadium.

Staff writer
Football Federation Australia (FFA) will this week begin the detailed work with Hyundai A-League /Westfield W-League clubs to develop a new ownership and operating model for both leagues.

The feasibility of and criteria for expansion of the leagues under a new model will be further developed as part of the process.

The need to attract more investment into football was discussed by FFA Chairman Steven Lowy AM, CEO David Gallop AM and senior executives with club chairmen on February 14. The existing joint working group, which includes four Club Chairmen, will meet to discuss this on Thursday.

Analysis of football’s financial position following the conclusion of a new six year broadcasting agreement in December last year shows that rapid growth in the game generally – and expansion of the Hyundai A-League/Westfield W-League in particular – will require significant more capital investment.  Changing the ownership and operating model would create a more attractive opportunity for current and prospective investors.

A general view of AAMI Park during Saturday night's Melbourne City v Melbourne Victory clash. The FFA’s analysis found that expanding the Hyundai A-League by two teams under the current model would result in net losses over the next six years.  This is because grant distributions to the new clubs, and the increase in costs to FFA for operational matters such as transport would be greater than the additional revenue the clubs would generate through broadcast arrangements and sponsorships. As the FFA is a not-for-profit organisation that redistributes all of its income into the clubs and other parts of the game, such losses are not sustainable.

“We recently advised the clubs that we must explore a new model for the Hyundai A-League/Westfield W-League. We agree that we need to protect the value of the existing licences in which the current owners have invested,” said Mr Gallop.

“We want to expand the leagues but this has to happen as part of a new structure.  That’s why we are now working with the clubs to determine the future structure of the leagues and the criteria for expansion.

“We will examine these issues in detail and expect this work will take months rather than weeks.  We know that those consortia that have expressed an interest in joining the league would want to be part of something that is financially sustainable and attractive as a sound investment.”

Football Federation CEO David Gallop.FFA is engaging a corporate advisory firm to assist with developing models for a new structure and to provide advice on the financial aspects of the expansion process.

“The decisions we make around the future of the Hyundai A-League/Westfield W-League will have an impact on every aspect of football in Australia,” said Mr Gallop.  “That’s why we want to work with the clubs and other stakeholders on changes that benefit the whole game.”

Mr Gallop said FFA would provide updates on the process over the months ahead.  While it was too soon to predict when expansion might occur, it would not happen before the 2018-19 season.

Rhys Williams has been a key figure in Perth Glory’s recent run of results

Rhys Williams has been a key figure in Glory's recent run of results.

To think Sydney FC might have got their hands on Rhys Williams.

In January, Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold issued a public ‘come-play-for-us-if-you’re not-wanted-at-Glory’ pitch shortly after he lost classy central defender Matt Jurman to the K-League.

It didn’t go down too well in Perth.

Thankfully for Glory, there was no window move to the Harbour City for the Glory man after a spell out of the first team sparked speculation about his future.

His last start had been on December 10 in the 2-1 loss to Newcastle at nib.

Perth Glory has responded to claims defender Rhys Williams wants to leave the club.It became a saga as Kenny Lowe repeatedly played a straight bat to questions about the former Middlesbrough captain and why he wasn’t in the first team squad (injury was the official line).

But that’s in the past now.

In February, Perth have been sparked by a rampant Diego Castro, and with the 28-year-old Williams in equally strong form at the other end of the park, they have gone on a winning run that has them firmly in sight of third and a home final.

The month began when Williams returned as a sub just before half time in the 3-2 win over Jets on February 4.

A week later he was in the starting XI – and looked immediately at home – when he helped Glory smash the Reds 5-0 at Coopers (one sliding, defensive block to shut out a Reds shot in the box really caught the eye).

Suddenly, Glory’s backline had that look about it.

Rhys Williams plays the ball during Glory's Round 1 clash against the Mariners. And this was followed by a starting berth against Roar (2-2) and Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Wanderers.

Glory are unbeaten in four since he returned to the side this month, taking 10 points from 12.

With Castro on fire at one end, and Williams at the other, there’s an awesome look to Glory as the finals approach.

And Williams showed his customary versatility this weekend by slotting into midfield and barnstorming his way through the Wanderers’ lines.

The former ECU Joondalup player’s stats reflect his influence with 71.4% of tackles won, a passing accuracy of just over 82% and 85.7% of aerial duels won this season.

Rhys Williams congratulates Diego Castro after he scores one of his two goals against the Reds.Sydney FC and Victory will finish top two. That we know.

But with Glory lurking around third spot – and with a home final as the reward – this is a side that could easily win a home Elimination Final and push Victory or Sydney all the way in the semi final.

The one-time Socceroo is a charismatic, talented leader who returned to where it all began in WA to kick-start his career.

And you sense he will want to make up for lost time with Perth when the business end of the season comes around.

Aussie defender Cameron Burgess has been named in the English Football League (EFL) Team of the Week.

Aussie defender Cameron Burgess has been named in the English Football League (EFL) Team of the Week.

Australian defender Cameron Burgess has won selection in their week’s English Football League (EFL) Team of the Week.

Burgess, on loan at League One club Bury from Fulham, earned his spot after helping his side to a 1-0 win at Charlton Athletic over the weekend.

The EFL Team of the Week is made up of the best players from the Championship, League One and League Two in England.

Burgess was a rock for the Shakers, standing firm against a late onslaught from Charlton at the Valley.

His selection is a reward for a superb run of form for the 21-year-old since joining Bury in January.

Bury has lost just one of eight matches since Burgess has been in the side, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

The upturn in results has helped the Shakers pull away from the relegation zone in League One, currently 19th and three points above the drop zone.

They take on fellow strugglers Coventry in a crucial match on Wednesday (AEDT), where Burgess will come up against fellow Aussie Andy Rose.

Hyundai A-League clubs’ MD2 Asian Champions League 2017 preview

Brisbane Roar's Brandon Borrello, Adelaide United's Dylan McGowan and Western Sydney Wanderers' Jumpei Kusukami.

Brisbane Roar’s Brandon Borrello, Adelaide United’s Dylan McGowan and Western Sydney Wanderers’ Jumpei Kusukami.

It was not the best of opening weeks for Hyundai A-League clubs in the 2017 AFC Champions League group stage, but there are still five games to put it right. It all starts again on Tuesday as matchday 2 kicks off.

Ulsan Hyundai Horangi vs Brisbane Roar

Tuesday night

Brisbane was held to a goalless draw at home to Thai champions Muangthong United and face a long trip to a city on the south-east coast of Korea Republic, on the back of Saturday’s home loss to Wellington in the league.

Ulsan took the title in 2012 but this time is late replacement for excluded champion Jeonbuk Motors and have been hastily adding players to improve their squad, including Dimitri Petratos, ironically from Brisbane Roar.

It did not pay dividends. The Tigers lost their opener 2-0 at Kawasaki Frontale but it was a decent performance. The visitor just was not clinical enough in front of goal and that proved to be the difference in the end.

There was some encouraging link-up play between Lee Jong-ho, signed from Jeonbuk in the close season and once known as “The Gwangyang Rooney” and new Croatian signing Mislav Orsic. If these two can click in attack then Ulsan will be dangerous on Tuesday night.

This is the team’s final game before the start of the 2017 K-League Classic season so Ulsan should be fresh and focused if not quite as cohesive as it would like. Shanghai SIPG vs Western Sydney Wanderers Tuesday night  The 2014 ACL champions are finding it a little tough in the Hyundai A-League of late – the weekend’s 2-0 loss in Perth has them clinging on to a spot in the six with the Jets nipping at their heels – and a trip to Shanghai SIPG may not provide much relief.  There should be plenty of excitement though with the likes of Oscar, Hulk and Elkeson lining up for the hosts. SIPG picked up a hard-fought 1-0 win over FC Seoul in last week’s opener.

The game was notable for two things. The first was that the only goal was scored by Hulk and it was done so in spectacular fashion. The Brazilian repaid a slice of his reported $75 million fee with a left-footed rocket from outside the area. The second was that despite the sending off of central defender He Guan for the final 30 minutes, the Chinese team held on for a vital win.

It suggests that as well as the attacking prowess that the Reds have, there is steel at the other end. Jiangsu Suning vs Adelaide United Wednesday night The trip to Nanjing will be a long one for the defending Hyundai A-League champion who are coming off a 2-1 loss to Melbourne Victory on Saturday, as they languish in bottom place.  Jiangsu, for their part, have high hopes ahead of the new Chinese Super League season and in Asia too. Last week, Jiangsu was somewhat fortunate to take all three points at Jeju United.  On a windy evening on the Korea Republic island, Jeju hit the woodwork on two occasions and had Jeju struggling.

Yet with a minute of regular time left, Ramires scuffed a shot in the area and it bobbled into the Korean net. And that was it.

The only downside was the injury to Alex Teixeira. The Brazilian suffered a muscle strain and was withdrawn at half-time.

The expensive playmaker played the full 90 in Saturday’s 1-0 Super Cup loss to Guangzhou Evergrande and should start against Adelaide, too.
