Pesky Perth supermoon to steal the limelight from meteor shower

A meteor shower expected to burst across Perth skies on Tuesday night would normally provide stargazers with a spectacular celestial show.

But that pesky supermoon is back to steal the limelight.

The Geminids meteor shower can be seen on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with 120 meteors lighting up our skies per hour, if the heavens remain clear.

But the peak of the meteor show coincides with the third supermoon of 2016.

Last month, the biggest and brightest moon since 1948 hit Perth, sending astronomy nerds into an astronomical frenzy.

The Perth Observatory’s Matt Woods said the brightest meteors would be hidden by the return of the supermoon.

“Usually when we don’t have a moon in the sky you get 100 to 120 meteors an hour but we will get a reduced amount of about 30 to 40, which is still pretty good for most meteor showers,” he told Radio 6PR.

“Because of the light pollution that comes off the moon, you probably won’t be able to see some of the fainter ones.

Mr Woods said the best part of the meteor shower is you don’t have to get up at some “god awful” hour to view the show.

He even offered up a few handy spots to check out the shooting stars.

“It’s best to find a dark area at a local park, the beaches…maybe even Mundaring Weir is great,” he said.

“We had one last year, which unfortunately started above our heads but exploded behind the trees so everything just lit up

“What is happening is the earth is moving through the tale of an asteroid and pretends to be a bit of a comet and it has a bit of a tail and it produces jets.

“It’s a bit like driving through a rain storm and you get hit by rain on the windscreen.”

Astronomical Society of Victoria vice-president Perry Vlahos told Fairfax Media the meteor shower would probably peak early Wednesday morning and could even extend into Thursday morning.

“This year, because of the moon, it’s [the meteor shower is] not going to be as spectacular as other years. It’s a little bit like natural light pollution,” he said.

“I wouldn’t bother going out into the country or anything like that to get away from the city lights. With the full moon, it’s going to be the same everywhere, whether you observe from the suburbs or in the country.”

Curioso é como isso aconteceu.

O menino Felipe Marcondes, de 5 anos, usado pelo programa para “conhecer” o cantor Leonardo é o mesmo extrovertido menino Felipe Marcondes, dos mesmos pais, levado para conhecer o mesmo cantor Leonardo, na Festa do Peão do Boiadeiro em Barretos, no mês de agosto passado.

Aliás, matéria do jornal local da EPTV, na ocasião, não deixa a menor dúvida sobre isso, inclusive mostrando a mesma “surpresa e alegria” dos seus pais.

Não é interessante?

Para não imaginar qualquer outra coisa, devemos entender que houve apenas um grande descuido da produção e que o Leonardo também esqueceu rapidamente dele.

Vilão de Gabriel Braga Nunes é a grande aposta da próxima novela das seis

Gabriel Braga Nunes já está em fase de aquecimento para ser alguém muito do mal, Thomas Johnson, o principal vilão de “Novo Mundo”, novela de época que substituirá “Sol Nascente” a partir de março de 2017 na Globo.

É nesse personagem que os autores estreantes Thereza Falcão e Alessandro Marson estão apostando alto, até pela experiência do ator em papéis do tipo.

E interpretar bandidos deixou de ser uma preocupação, já há um bom tempo, para nossos atores. O próprio Gabriel chegou a declarar numa entrevista a Serginho Groisman que, atualmente, as pessoas têm uma relação muito diferente com os vilões. “Hoje em dia, as pessoas curtem esses personagens, a torcida é praticamente por eles”, comentou Gabriel.

Na história, entre uma maldade e outra, Thomas Johnson fará de tudo para conquistar Anna Millman, a mocinha interpretada por Isabelle Drummond.

“Novo Mundo”, com estreia em março, é definida por seus autores como um capa-espada, que se passa no período de luta do Brasil pela independência, e já está com seu elenco fechado.

Além de Braga Nunes e Drummond, também estarão na história nomes como Julia Lemmertz, Chay Suede, Caio Castro, Ingrid Guimarães, Letícia Colin, Léo Jaime, Sheron Menezes, Agatha Moreira e Giullia Buscacio, entre outros.

Gugu Liberato acerta sua permanência na Record em 2017

Fontes da coluna revelam que depois de várias rodadas de negociação, Gugu Liberato e a Record chegaram a um acordo para sua permanência em 2017.

O programa vai continuar na casa, ocupando o mesmo horário das quartas-feiras, mas agora obedecendo a um novo sistema de produção.

A produtora do apresentador, a GGP, que até então era responsável por este trabalho, deixa de ter essa obrigação a partir deste momento.

Consequentemente, acaba o contrato de sociedade, que vale até o próximo dia 28. Toda a equipe do programa, a partir do próximo acordo, ficará sob inteira  responsabilidade da Record ou de uma empresa que ela vier a contratar.

E Gugu ficará apenas na condição de apresentador. Foi tudo conversado, acertado e combinado, mas a assinatura do contrato ficou de acontecer num outro dia. Consultada, a Record não se manifesta sobre o assunto.

Boeing Begins Digital Flight Deck Upgrades to NATO Fleet

Airborne Warning and Control System upgrades improve efficiency, cost savings and operator awareness

SEATTLE, Dec. 13, 2016 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] today delivered to NATO the first of fourteen E-3A Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft with cockpit upgrades that improve mission-readiness, decrease customer costs and reaffirm Boeing’s overall commitment to the fleet.

The Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) digital flight deck and avionics enhancements ensure compliance with current and future air traffic control and navigation requirements.

Upgrades include five full-color glass displays, which provide crewmembers with customizable engine, navigation and radar data to improve mission execution. Digital capabilities allow NATO to reduce flight crew size by one, leading to greater efficiencies and cost savings.

“These improvements allow the removal of airspace restrictions, which saves NATO flight crews time and fuel and supplies operators with easier access to the information they need,” said Wendy Atkinson, Boeing AWACS CNS/ATM program manager.

NATO’s AWACS fleet is the alliance’s first integrated, multinational flying unit, providing rapid deployment, airborne surveillance and communication for NATO operations.

Thirteen additional NATO AWACS will receive installation of the upgrade as part of a $257 million modification effort. The second aircraft upgrade is already under way, with the entire fleet slated for completion in 2018.

The modernization has also been installed on a U.S. Air Force AWACS, which is completing extensive flight tests and will deliver in 2017.

“The AWACS program is a vital asset for the NATO alliance and a best practice in transatlantic defense industrial cooperation,” said Brian Moran, vice president, Government Affairs for Boeing in Europe. “Partnering with companies from both sides of the Atlantic helped us get this important capability back in the hands of our customers on time and on budget.”
