Cathay Pacific to bring Airbus A350 to Brisbane in March
Cathay Pacific is boosting passenger and cargo capacity between Brisbane and Hong Kong with the use of the Airbus A350-900 in early 2017, announcing on Monday it would deploy the aircraft on its daily CX156/CX157 rotation between Brisbane and Hong Kong, with flights starting at the end of March.
It will be the first airline to use the next generation Airbus twin to Brisbane.
Currently, all of Cathay’s 11 flights a week to Brisbane are operated with Airbus A330-300s configured with 251 seats comprising 39 in business, 21 in premium economy and 191 in economy.
By contrast, the A350-900s have 280 seats (38 business, 28 premium economy and 214 economy) and feature the airline’s latest cabin products such as on-board wifi, new premium economy seat and refreshed business and economy seats. In particular, the aircraft features Cathay’s innovative “six-way” headrest designed to make it easier for passengers to sleep.
The upgauge of aircraft type on seven of Cathay’s 11 weekly flights represented a 12 per cent increase in available seats to Brisbane, as well as additional cargo capacity.
Cathay general manager for Southwest Pacific Nelson Chin said passengers would notice the difference travelling on the latest generation A350.
“As a larger aircraft, the A350 also enables us to bring more passengers into Brisbane and take Queenslanders seamlessly to more than 170 destinations around the world,” Chin said in a statement.
“With 11 flights a week, we have become a firm favourite for many Queenslanders heading overseas, as well as bringing business people and tourists alike into the Sunshine State.”
Flight CX156 is an overnight flight from Brisbane that lands in Hong Kong in the morning. Meanwhile, CX157 is a lunchtime departure from Hong Kong that arrives in Brisbane a little after 2300.
Monday’s announcement followed confirmation Cathay would deploy the A350-900 and Boeing 777-300ER to Melbourne from February and March 2017.
Cathay, which picked up its first A350-900 in May, has 22 of the type on order due to be delivered between now and the end of 2017. It has also signed for 26 of the larger A350-1000, which were due to arrive between 2018-2020.
In addition to some regional routes, the A350-900 operates long-haul services from Hong Kong to Auckland, Dusseldorf and London Gatwick, with Paris and Rome to receive the aircraft by the end of 2016, according to the June 2016 edition of Cathay’s staff magazine CXWorld.
The use of larger aircraft follows a similar move in Sydney, where two of Cathay’s four daily flights are now operated with 777-300ERs.
Cathay has utilised all available traffic rights for Hong Kong carriers to Australia’s four major international gateways of Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, which currently sits at 70 flights a week. As a result, the only way to add capacity is to upgauge to larger equipment.
The decision to add extra capacity to Brisbane and Melbourne also comes as Virgin Australia prepares to mount flights to Hong Kong and Beijing from a yet-to-be-disclosed Australian city from June 2017 in partnership with HNA Group.
Brisbane Airport chief executive Julieanne Alroe welcomed the first A350 service to Brisbane, which would represent an additional 10,000 seats per year on the Hong Kong route.
“This aircraft is the latest word in comfort, safety and new technology in the sky. Importantly, it will be quietest long-haul aircraft serving Brisbane, a trend we welcome,” Alroe said.
“Cathay Pacific has been a favourite of Brisbane business travellers for years, we all now have even more to look forward to next time we fly with Cathay Pacific.”

De vez em quando ocorrem grandes tragédias coletivas e é nessas horas que perguntamos: por que acontece esse tipo de coisa? Qual a finalidade desses acidentes que causam a morte conjunta de várias pessoas? Como a Justiça Divina pode ser percebida nessas situações? Por que algumas pessoas escapam?
Claro que sabemos que Deus não nos julga e nem nos castiga.
Fatalidade, destino, azar são palavras que não combinam com a Doutrina Espírita, da mesma forma que a sorte daqueles que escapam desse tipo de situação, sempre há os relatos daqueles que desejavam estar no local da tragédia e não conseguiram; daqueles que estavam no cenário e não sofreram nada além do susto; e tantos outros.
Então, para a Doutrina Espírita, como se explicam casos como esse? A resposta está no resgate coletivo, conceito que envolve a correção de rumo de um grupo de Espíritos que em alguma outra encarnação cometeu atos semelhantes – e muitas vezes em conjunto – de descumprimento da lei divina e que, portanto, para individualmente terem a consciência tranquilizada precisam sanar o débito. Toda a problemática, nesse caso, está no trabalho dos mentores na reunião desses Espíritos de modo a que juntos possam se reajustar frente à Lei Divina.
Pergunta-se às vezes o que se deve pensar das mortes prematuras, das mortes acidentais, das catástrofes que, de um golpe, destroem numerosas existências humanas. Como conciliar esses fatos com a ideia de plano, de providência, de harmonia universal?
Quem nos explica sobre esta questão é Leon Denis, o sucessor de Allan Kardec, em seu livro: O problema do Ser do Destino e da Dor, primeira parte, item X – a Morte:
“As existências interrompidas prematuramente por causa de acidentes chegaram ao seu termo previsto. São em geral, complementares de existências anteriores, truncadas por causa de abusos ou excessos. Quando, em consequências de hábitos desregrados, se gastaram os recursos vitais antes da hora marcada pela natureza. Tem-se de voltar a perfazer, numa existência mais curta, o lapso de tempo que a existência precedente devia ter normalmente preenchido. Sucede que os seres humanos, que devem dar essa reparação, se reúnem num ponto pela força do destino, para sofrerem, numa morte trágica, as consequências de atos que têm relação com o passado anterior ao nascimento. Daí, as mortes coletivas, as catástrofes que lançam no mundo um aviso. Aqueles que assim partem, acabaram o tempo que tinham de viver e vão preparar-se para existências melhores.”
O Espiritismo explica com muita coerência, que cada um recebe segundo as suas obras, porque todos nós estamos submetidos à Lei de Ação e Reação ou de causa e efeito e à Lei de Evolução ou de Progresso.
Segundo a primeira, nós seres humanos, com nossos pensamentos, sentimentos e ações, criamos causas que terão um efeito posterior. O caráter positivo ou negativo das causas vão gerar o gênero desses efeitos. É uma Lei que não castiga, mas que reajusta as ações cometidas pelo uso do nosso livre arbítrio. Age devolvendo o caminhante desviado e perdido ao caminho correto do bem e do progresso, através das encarnações sucessivas.
A Lei de Evolução ou do Progresso rege a transformação contínua de tudo o que possui vida, desde os estados rudimentares e inferiores, até formas mais perfeitas e complexas. Por intermédio dessa Lei, o ser humano passou a ser o homem “civilizado” de hoje, abandonando suas etapas selvagens e primitivas. Graças à Lei de Evolução e às provas sucessivas, às quais ela nos submete em nossas existências múltiplas, nós seres humanos vamos corrigindo nossas imperfeições, transformando nossos defeitos e debilidades em virtudes ou qualidades, que nos empurram à conquista da vida espiritual. A aplicação do nosso livre arbítrio fará com que essa Lei nos faça caminhar pelas trilhas do bem, do amor e da felicidade, ou ao contrário, pelo caminho da dor.
Gerson Simões Monteiro, presidente da “Fundação Espírita Cristã C. Paulo de Tarso”, em um artigo sobre as mortes coletivas, escreve que as vítimas de um terremoto poderiam ser antigos guerreiros que, numa encarnação anterior, destruíram cidades, lares, mataram mulheres e crianças sob os escombros de suas casas e vitimaram a milhares de pessoas. Numa nova encarnação, são “atraídos por uma força magnética pelos crimes praticados coletivamente, reúnem em determinadas circunstâncias, e sofrem “na pele” por meio de um terremoto ou outra catástrofe semelhante, o mesmo mal que fizeram às suas vítimas indefesas de ontem.” São faltas individuais que influem no coletivo.
Acrescentamos que os sobreviventes também são chamados a uma transformação moral, a uma mudança em suas vidas, mas há pessoas que se aproveitam da situação de caos, em uma região que sofreu citado terremoto, para saquear, roubar, violentar e que se beneficiam com egoísmo das doações recebidas. Para essas, a lição não é suficiente e se comprometem mais seriamente ante a coletividade.
Temos também outro exemplo real, explicado nas páginas da literatura espírita. No dia 17 de dezembro de 1961, um circo pegou fogo na cidade de Niterói (Rio de Janeiro) e cerca de 500 pessoas faleceram.
No livro “Cartas e Crônicas”, psicografado por Francisco Cândido Xavier, o Espírito Humberto de Campos relata a causa do acidente explicando que no ano 177 da Era Cristã, Marco Aurélio reinava no império romano. Mulheres, homens, crianças, anciões e enfermos cristãos eram detidos, torturados e exterminados. “Mais de 20 mil pessoas já haviam sido mortas”.
Chegou a notícia da visita do famoso guerreiro Lúcio Galo naquelas terras e os donos do poder queriam homenageá-lo de maneira grandiosa e original. Decidiram queimar milhares de cristãos num espetáculo “à altura” do visitante.
“Durante a noite inteira, mais de mil pessoas, ávidas de crueldade, vasculharam residências humildes e, no dia subsequente, ao Sol vivo da tarde, largas filas de mulheres e criancinhas, em gritos e lágrimas, no fim de soberbo espetáculo, encontraram a morte, queimadas nas chamas alteadas ao sopro do vento, ou despedaçadas pelos cavalos em correria.”
“Quase dezoito séculos passaram sobre o tenebroso acontecimento… Entretanto, a justiça da Lei, através da reencarnação, reaproximou todos os responsáveis, que, em diversas posições de idade física, se reuniram de novo para dolorosa expiação, a 17 de dezembro de 1961, na cidade brasileira de Niterói, em comovedora tragédia num circo.”
O notável Mediunato de Chico Xavier também nos esclarece outro fato real ocorrido em São Paulo, no dia 1º de fevereiro de 1974, data em que o Edifício Joelma se incendiou e deixou 188 mortos.
O Espírito Cyro Costa e Cornélio Pires se manifestam por psicografia e deixaram dois sonetos que revelavam a causa das mortes em massa no incêndio. As vítimas resgatavam os “derradeiros resquícios de culpa que ainda traziam na própria alma, remanescentes de compromissos adquiridos em guerra das Cruzadas”.
Com relação a mortes coletivas em aviões, o Espírito André Luiz, no capítulo 18 do Livro Ação e Reação, psicografado por Chico Xavier, esclarece que piratas que afundaram e saquearam criminosamente embarcações indefesas no dorso do mar, ceifando inúmeras vidas, agora encarnados em outros corpos, morrem, muitas vezes, coletivamente nos acidentes aviatórios.
Ainda na mensagem “Desencarnações Coletivas”, o benfeitor espiritual Emmanuel esclarece outros motivos para as mortes que se verificam coletivamente. Diz ele: “Invasores ilaqueados pela própria ambição, que esmagávamos coletividades na volúpia do saque, tornamos à Terra com encargos diferentes, mas em regime de encontro marcado para a desencarnação conjunta em acidentes públicos.
Exploradores da comunidade, quando lhe exauríamos as forças em proveito pessoal, pedimos a volta ao corpo denso para facearmos unidos o ápice de epidemias arrasadoras.
Promotores de guerras manejadas para assalto e crueldade pela megalomania do ouro e do poder, em nos fortalecendo para a regeneração, pleiteamos o Plano Físico a fim de sofrermos a morte de partilha, aparentemente imerecida, em acontecimentos de sangue e lágrimas.
Corsários que ateávamos fogo a embarcações e cidades na conquista de presas fáceis, em nos observando no Além com os problemas da culpa, solicitamos o retorno à Terra para a desencarnação coletiva em dolorosos incêndios, inexplicáveis sem a reencarnação”.
Diz Allan Kardec, nos comentários da questão 738 de O Livro dos Espíritos, que “venha por um flagelo à morte, ou por uma causa comum, ninguém deixa por isso de morrer, desde que haja soado a hora da partida. A única diferença, em caso de lagelo, é que maior número parte ao mesmo tempo”.
E finalmente, segundo esclareceram os Espíritos Superiores a Allan Kardec, na resposta à questão 740 de O Livro dos Espíritos, “os flagelos são provas que dão ao homem ocasião de exercitar a sua inteligência, de demonstrar sua paciência e resignação ante a vontade de Deus e que lhe oferecem ensejo de manifestar seus sentimentos de abnegação, de desinteresse e de amor ao próximo, se o não domina o egoísmo”.

LATAM to serve Melbourne-Santiago nonstop from October 2017
Australians will have a new option to South America from October 2017 when LATAM Airlines begins nonstop flights from Melbourne to Santiago, Chile.
The oneworld alliance member plans to serve Melbourne from its Santiago hub three times a week with Boeing 787-9s. The inaugural service is due to take off on October 5 2017 and will be the first nonstop link between Melbourne and Latin America, LATAM said in a statement on Monday.
Melbourne will be the second Australian port for Qantas codeshare partner. Currently, LATAM flies daily to Sydney via a Santiago-Auckland-Sydney routing with 787-9s, while Qantas operates nonstop four times a week between Sydney and Santiago with Boeing 747-400 equipment, with a fifth flight added during certain peak periods.
LATAM Airlines managing director for Asia Pacific Patricio Aylwin said the new Melbourne service would offer travellers more choice and greater convenience.
“By connecting Melbourne with Chile’s economic and cultural centre – and also a key gateway to the rest of Latin America – this new route will help support the growth of tourism and commerce between the two regions,” Aylwin said in a statement.
“We’re confident that passengers on both sides of the Pacific will welcome the wealth of attractions, cultures and cuisines that this service will bring even closer.”
LATAM’s 787-9s are configured with 304 seats comprising 30 lie-flat business, 54 Space + and 220 economy seats.
Figures from the Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) showed LAN carried 7,303 passengers on its flights into Australia in September 2016 with an average load factor of 78.8 per cent. Its flights out of Australia had 7,960 passengers and an average load factor of 85.9 per cent.
The inbound figures are down slightly from an average load factor of 82.1 per cent in September 2015, while LAN’s outbound services have improved from an average load factor of 84.3 per cent in the prior year.
Tourism Australia, the Victorian state government and its tourism arm Visit Victoria will help support the new route as part of a partnership with LATAM that was also announced on Monday.
Tourism Australia managing director John O’Sullivan said the LATAM’s Santiago hub would offer plenty of connection opportunities for travellers from the potentially lucrative markets such as Brazil and Argentina to visit Australia.
“As the largest airline in Latin America, transporting over 67 million passengers per year and one with a frequent flyer program with more than 20 million members, the commercial benefits of working with LATAM are huge and very exciting,” O’Sullivan said in a statement.
Aylwin added: “Together with these industry partners, we will be able to create even greater opportunities to increase the number of Latin American tourists and business travellers flying to Australia with us.”

Boeing Business Jets and GKN Aerospace Introduce Skyview Panoramic Window
Largest-ever passenger jet window available on new BBJs, retrofit on existing BBJs
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Dec. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Boeing [NYSE:BA] Business Jets announced today it will work with GKN Aerospace’s Fokker business to develop, produce, offer and support the Skyview Panoramic Window, the largest window available on any passenger jet offered today.
The window will be available as a feature on the BBJ, BBJ 2, and all three members of the BBJ MAX family – including the new BBJ MAX 7 – with scheduled entry-into-service in 2018.
“We are thrilled to formally confirm our partnership with GKN Aerospace’s Fokker business for the development of this fantastic feature on the BBJ, the largest airplane window available in the market,” said Boeing Business Jets President David Longridge.
The Skyview Panoramic Window, measuring approximately 4.5 feet by 1.5 foot (1.4 x 0.5 m), is created by effectively joining three existing 737 windows together. Situated aft of the wing with multiple potential locations based on the airplane type, it offers customers an unparalleled perspective of the world.

ACJ320neo Family continues to win orders
New aircraft build on success of Airbus corporate jets
Airbus Corporate Jets has won another commitment for an ACJ320neo, highlighting the continuing success of its new aircraft family.
The latest deal adds to the seven orders already won by the ACJ320neo Family, taking total orders and commitments to eight, comprising six ACJ320neo and two ACJ319 neo aircraft.
Capitalising on new-generation engines and Sharklets at the wingtips, plus other improvements, the ACJ320neo Family delivers a 16 per cent fuel saving and corresponding range increase.
“The ACJ320neo Family further improves a proven and successful design, allowing customers to take more of their lifestyles to even more of the world,” points out Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers John Leahy.
The ACJ319neo can fly eight passengers for more than 15 hours, or 6,750 nm/12,500 km, while the ACJ320neo can carry 25 passengers for over 13 hours, or 6,000 nm/11,100 km.

Delta Air Lines receives its first U.S.-produced Airbus aircraft
Airbus delivers the new A321 in Mobile, Alabama
The first delivery of an A321 aircraft from the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility to Delta Air Lines took place today, in Mobile, Alabama. On hand for the occasion were executives from Airbus and Delta Air Lines, a team of Delta employees from the airline’s Minneapolis-St. Paul station, and representatives of the more than 370 employees at the facility.
Bob Lekites, Executive Vice President-Customers, Airbus Americas said, “Airbus is committed to giving our customers the right products for a marketplace that needs modern, efficient and passenger-friendly aircraft. Delta has recognized our commitment to our customers, and has determined we were the right partner for them. Delta already operates 137 A320 family aircraft and 40 A330 and have another 123 aircraft on order—including A320 family, A330 and A350 aircraft. Just this year, Delta placed its third A321 ceo order in three years. So this is definitely the first of many deliveries Delta will take from Mobile in the next few years.”

Airbus announced its commitment to build a single-aisle assembly line in Mobile, Alabama in 2012, and less than one year later, broke ground on the $600 million facility. The ceremonial inauguration of the plant took place in September 2015. The aircraft delivered today is the 15th aircraft delivered from the Mobile facility.
Airbus anticipates delivering four aircraft per month from the Mobile plant by the end of 2017. The initial deliveries will all be A320 Family aircraft with the Current Engine Option (CEO), but will begin transitioning to New Engine Option (NEO) derivatives in late 2017.
In addition to hundreds of new Airbus jobs the project has brought to the local community, the Mobile area has seen many Airbus suppliers open new facilities in the region, providing even more employment and a parallel boost to the local economy. Airplane is 50th Dreamliner for AerCap, 500th 787 to roll off Boeing production lines
PARIS, Dec. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — Boeing (NYSE: BA) and AerCap, a global leader in aircraft leasing, celebrated the delivery of the first 787 for Air France. The airplane, a 787-9, signifies the delivery of AerCap’s 50th Dreamliner and will be deployed on Air France’s Paris to Cairo route starting in January.
