A FIREWORKS display will greet the 680 passengers and 400 crew on board cruise ship the Azamara Quest when it makes its maiden call to Hobart tonight.
The fireworks are part of a bespoke event — dubbed the AzAmazing Evening — arranged for passengers by Azamara Club Cruises to showcase Australia’s southern-most capital.
The ship will dock at Macquarie Wharf 2 at 6.30pm, with festivities to kick off at 8pm.
Included will be a waterfront welcome from the Tasmania Police Pipe Band followed by a cocktail party and a 45-minute performance from the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra inside the Mac 2 terminal.
The fireworks will begin at 10pm and will run for 14 minutes.
Event manager Karen Fraser said Hobart “won” the event from a New Zealand port.
The pyrotechnic show will be set off on a barge moored 250m off Macquarie Wharf 2, with Marine and Safety Tasmania advising mariners that a prohibited area has been declared in the area between 9-10pm.
No vessel or craft, other than those with authorised officers, is allowed to enter the prohibited area.
