Nepal 2-1 Jordan

Bishkek: Oman and Nepal emerged as the early pacesetters in Group B of the qualifiers for the AFC U-16 Championship on Wednesday as the Gulf Sultanate defeated hosts Kyrgyzstan and the South Asians edged edged Jordan 2-1.

Cheered on by over 6500 fans at the at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium Kyrgyzstan found themselves trailing after just ten minutes when Muatasim Mustafa Al Bakri opened the scoring before the home side fell further behind in the 27th minute, with Mohamed Khalifa Al Khamisi’s strike giving Oman a two-goal advantage to take into the second half.

Oman couldn’t add to their advantage after the restart but their defence remained firm as Kyrgyzstan failed to find the goals that could see them salvage something from their opener.

As it transpired, the game ended 2-0 putting Oman at the top of the Group B standings ahead of Nepal on goal difference, after a late consolation goal saw Nepal defeat Jordan 2-1

Rejin Subba struck the first Group B goal with 27 minutes played before extending Nepal’s advantage in the 69th minute as the side from the Himalayan kingdom looked on course for all three points.

Substitue Muhannad Mohammad Omar Abuawad – a 73rd minute replacement for Mohammad Akram – pulled one back two minutes into second-half stoppage time but the Jordanian forward’s late goal proved a mere consolation as Nepal emerged victorious.

Ten group winners and four best second-placed teams will join DPR Korea, who topped the already concluded Group H, and India in next year’s finals, with the tournament hosts receiving an automatic qualification.

Should India finish top of their qualifying group or among the four best second-placed teams, the fifth best second-placed nation will qualify for the final competition.
