“The Bachelorette” nunca teve uma versão exibida no Brasil.

FIFA Presidential Election: The Football Federation of Australia will vote to oust FIFA president Sepp Blatter

The Football Federation of Australia will vote to oust FIFA president Sepp Blatter in the wake of the latest corruption scandal that has led to seven senior football officials being arrested over allegations of bribery.

FFA chairman Frank Lowy arrived in Zurich for top level talks ahead of Friday’s 2015 FIFA Congress, at which Mr Blatter was expected to coast to another term as president.

In a statement released on Thursday night, Australia’s football hierarchy announced they will throw their support behind Blatter’s only challenger, Jordanian Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein, should the FIFA presidential election take place on Friday as per schedule.

With the election itself now facing possible delay, and the organisation under intense pressure over the corruption claims, Mr Lowy announced the FFA would back Mr Blatter’s opponent.

Speaking in Zurich after a round of meetings, Frank Lowy said: “FFA believes that profound change within FIFA is needed as soon as possible to address issues of governance and transparency.

“This belief will be reflected when Australia casts its vote in the Presidential election, should it proceed on Friday in Zurich.

“The Board of FFA has reviewed the manifesto for change proposed by Prince Ali bin Al-Hussein and believes it provides the basis for a fresh start for FIFA.”

It was not clear if the vote – or the entire Congress – would take place.

“The situation remains volatile amid suggestions that the FIFA Congress or Presidential election, or both, could be postponed. The outcome of this speculation is expected to become clearer overnight,” the statement said.

The Congress was due to kick-off on Thursday evening local time, with an opening ceremony to officially inaugurate the 65th gathering of the supreme legislative body of FIFA.

Friday’s congress was due to include a presidential address, a review of the organisation’s accounts and 2016 budget, and debates on issues affecting the game, before another closing address by the incoming president after the vote.

Blatter has not been seen publicly since several arrests were made in Zurich as he reportedly did not attend three vital public appearances in the final build-up to his re-election campaign.

Blatter reportedly called for an urgent meeting with the leaders of all six continental football bodies in light of the latest scandal.

Europe’s football chiefs will also vote for Mr Blatter’s challenger, they announced on Thursday.

The 54 members of UEFA met in Zurich and “a very big majority” would vote for Prince Ali, UEFA president Michel Platini said.

“People don’t want (Sepp Blatter) anymore and I don’t want him anymore either,” Mr Platini said.

“I have always said they want FIFA to be strong and FIFA is no longer strong. I am still trying to convince some [European football associations] who are not totally convinced.”

Mr Platini said he could not be sure Mr Blatter would lose the vote. “In every assembly we have good people, not so good people and very bad people,” he said. “We [UEFA] are in a minority and that causes problems.”
Prince Ali reportedly told UEFA delegates that he also had the support of more than 60 football associations outside Europe.

Mr Platini said he believe Mr Blatter could be defeated. “After seeing what has happened recently I think enough is enough and a number of people think likewise. I don’t know if that will be enough but there is a radical change in the mindset of a number of heads of (football) organisations.”

“I say these things with tears in my eyes. I don’t like it this way. But there are just too many scandals,” he added.

Platini made a public appeal at a press conference for member nations from around the world to vote against Blatter for the FIFA presidency in a vote on Friday.

If Mr Blatter was voted again as president then UEFA will meet in Berlin to discuss whether it wishes to quit FIFA altogether, Mr Platini said – meaning European teams would not compete in the World Cup.

“We will have a meeting and discuss all the possibilities,” Mr Platini said.

Mr Platini revealed he had personally met Mr Blatter, who was an old friend, to ask him not to contest the presidency again.

“I have affection for Mr Blatter … we have supported him for a long time. I think it is the quality of a friend to speak to his friend about what is the reality. If it is not for me to tell him [to go] nobody will tell him.

But he said Mr Blatter had told him it was too late to pull out of the vote.

Daí pra frente, o River apenas administrou a larga vantagem construída.

Qantas pilots back the Boeing 787

Odds are firming up for Qantas to bring the advanced Boeing 787 Dreamliner into its fleet following news that the airline has reached an in-principle wage agreement with pilots.

Qantas holds 50 options and purchase rights for the next-gen jet, with the first five available for delivery from 2017, with the Boeing 787 slated for international routes.

The revised wage deal includes new terms and conditions for Qantas’ international pilots who would be behind the stick of the advanced jet, while agreeing to Qantas’ policy of an 18 month wage freeze “followed by annual increments of 3 per cent.”

“The most notable feature of the proposed [enterprise agreement] is the inclusion of a new set of terms and conditions for the introduction of Boeing 787s into mainline should the board make the decision to purchase these aircraft,” said Nathan Safe, Qantas pilot and president of the Australian & International Pilots Association.

“These changes have been based around building a viable business case for the type of ultra long range flying capable of being performed by the 787.”

Getting the Dreamliner ducks in a row

CEO Alan Joyce has remained steadfast that all the numbers had to add up for the Boeing 787, beginning with a return to profitability for Qantas’ international arm – a box ticked in February this year, with the airlinechalking up a $367 million pre-tax profit over the July-December 2014 period and now soaring towards a potential $1 billion profit for the 204-2015 financial year.

An agreement with pilots was not only next on the to-do list but considered the last piece of the puzzle before the airline can sign off on the delivery of the new Boeing 787s.

“I want to order it [and] I think everybody at Qantas wants to have them”, Joyce said in December 2014.

“But we have to make sure that the business has the balance sheet straight, has the [right] cost base – the transformation [program] is key – and has the appropriate business case to get them” Joyce added.

While Jetstar is already flying the Boeing 787-8, Qantas has signed up for the larger and longer-range Boeing 787-9 which is already flown by Air New Zealand, Etihad Airways, United Airlines and Scoot.

Boeing rates the 787-9 as carrying 280 passengers in a standard three-class layout. Qantas would fit its new Business Suites at the pointy end of the Dreamliner, but it’s not known if a small premium economy cabin would be added or the rest of the plane would be given over entirely to economy seating.

Pundits are now looking towards Qantas’ late August briefing on its 2014-2015 full year financial results as a likely date for any announcement that the Boeing 787 will join the Flying Kangaroo’s fleet.
