Former Queensland MP and local government minister Nita Cunningham has died aged 75.
Ms Cunningham served in state parliament as the MP for Bundaberg from 1998 to 2006.
She was previously Bundaberg’s mayor from 1991 to 1998 and prior to that as deputy mayor and councillor from 1988.
Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says she was sad to hear of Ms Cunningham’s death.
“Nita devoted her working life to serving her local community and our state,” she said in a statement.
“I have spoken with members of Nita’s family and passed on my condolences and the thoughts of all members of the Labor party in Queensland.”
Ms Palaszczuk said Ms Cunningham’s council experience was reflected her work as Local Government and Planning Minister from November 2000 to February 2004.
Ms Cunningham was due to turn 76 on February 12.
