Iheanacho luta por gols e dança

Quando Kelechi Iheanacho começou a correr rumo à bandeira de escanteio, toda a seleção nigeriana partiu em disparada atrás dele. Então, ele levantou os braços alternadamente, apontando os dedos para o céu. O gesto era para conduzir a torcida, uma multidão de nigerianos, que alegremente começaram a imitar os seus movimentos. Todo um setor do Estádio Khalifa Bin Zayed em Al Ain começou a fazer a estranha dança, em êxtase pelo primeiro gol das Super Águias na Copa do Mundo Sub-17 da FIFA EAU 2013.

 

Para matar a curiosidade de todos, o FIFA.com perguntou a Iheanacho se aquilo seria uma dança tradicional do estado de Imo, ao sul da Nigéria, onde nasceu o jogador. “Não, não, não”, respondeu o nigeriano entre risos, remexendo-se no piso de mármore da entrada principal do estádio. “É a comemoração do meu lutador profissional favorito.” O jovem africano estava se referindo a Daniel Bryan, um americano barbudo do subúrbio de Seattle, que também atende pelo apelido de Dragão Americano. “Eu vejo ele na TV e adoro o jeito como ele levanta a galera dessa forma, então decidi copiá-lo. Os torcedores também pareceram gostar”, acrescentou ele com um largo sorriso no rosto.

 

Não é difícil esquecer que esses jovens jogadores presentes nos EAU 2013 são apenas garotos, especialmente quando se trata de alguém tão talentoso quanto Iheanacho, que marcou quatro gols na goleada por 6 a 1 contra o México, o atual campeão do torneio. Mas é justamente aí que reside a beleza do Mundial Sub-17: os jogadores ainda não são totalmente profissionais, ainda não estão enfastiados ou pensando apenas no próximo contrato. E assim acabam improvisando e se divertindo mais, a ponto de inventarem as comemorações mais estranhas e malucas.

 

“Fiquei totalmente louco de alegria quando o primeiro gol entrou”, comentou o atacante. Sobre isso não havia dúvidas! Iheanacho voltou a fazer a mesma dança inspirada em seu lutador predileto após cada um dos seus gols e, ao término do jogo, repetiu os movimentos quando os jogadores pegaram bandeiras verde e brancas das arquibancadas e festejaram como se tivessem acabado de conquistar o título.

 

A trilha sonora que acompanha o lutador preferido de Iheanacho, The Final Countdown (A Contagem Regressiva Final, em português) também é bastante adequada para a ocasião, considerando que aNigéria agora ganhou status de favorita para disputar a final em Abu Dhabi no dia 8 de novembro. E Iheanacho, com o seu estilo eletrizante, assumiu a artilharia isolada nos Emirados Árabes Unidos.

 

“Já marquei quatro gols em uma mesma partida várias vezes, mas apenas jogando na rua com os meus amigos”, afirmou. “Nunca em um confronto internacional, nunca pelo meu país. A sensação é incrível.”

 

Confiança no treinador
Antes do jogo, o técnico nigeriano Manu Garba falou ao FIFA.com sobre o seu forte setor ofensivo e avisou que a sua equipe jogaria no melhor estilo do Futebol Total. Ele só esqueceu de mencionar que tinha uma verdadeira joia no elenco, um jogador veloz e enérgico, capaz de ler o jogo com uma maturidade e uma paciência fora do comum para um adolescente. “O técnico nos dá liberdade para sermos nós mesmos, e é por isso que estamos tão confortáveis em campo”, explicou Iheanacho, enquanto os mexicanos subiam para o ônibus em meio a um clima de tristeza.

 

O respeito do jogador pelo seu treinador ficou evidente aos 37 minutos do segundo tempo, quando ele foi substituído e aplaudido de pé. Iheanacho correu até Garba e fez uma demorada reverência antes de apertar a sua mão. “Ele é o técnico e se formos espertos vamos ouvir o que ele tem para dizer, porque ele sabe o que está falando”, afirmou.

 

Suécia e Iraque são as próximas equipes do Grupo F que terão a difícil missão de enfrentar as Super Águias. Com o maestro Iheanacho comandando a orquestra nigeriana dentro de campo e nas arquibancadas, além do entrosamento quase telepático entre ele e o companheiro de ataque Success Isaac, a Nigéria certamente tem tudo para chegar longe no torneio.

 

“Claro, foi uma grande vitória no nosso primeiro jogo, mas agora precisamos ter coragem e determinação para seguir em frente até o fim”, concluiu Iheanacho, desta vez com seriedade na voz, antes de cumprimentar os torcedores pela última vez.

 

Tony Popovic: Not all negative for Wanderers

 

Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic admitted he was disappointed with his side’s 1-1 draw against Wellington but insisted there was a lot to like about the Wanderers’ performance on Sunday at Pirtek Stadium.

The hosts hit the front in the 15th minute thanks to a powerful Jerome Polenz strike but fell away in the final hour of the competitive clash to share the points at home.

“We’re sitting here disappointed but there were some good signs there, it’s early in the year and we’ve got to build on that,” Popovic said.

“Players are always disappointed when they don’t win a game, but it’s not all doom and gloom.

“We’ve just got to pick ourselves up and prepare ourselves for a great derby game that’s coming up [against Sydney FC].

“It was very pleasing the first 20 to 25 minutes and we played some great football, so we were pleased and we showed some progression in certain areas of our game.

“We probably are a little disappointed we didn’t kill off the game at that point when we were on top.

“We fell away after that and let them back into the game which is disappointing and in the end they’ve got some good players going forward and we got punished.”

Asked what went wrong in the final hour, Popovic replied: “We’ll have to assess that and have a look but I think we just dropped off a little bit.

“We felt at 1-0 up that it would just happen, which is not really like us and when they scored we seemed to go again so we’ve got to find that balance and get that balance right.

“We showed what we can do at the start of the game, it’s now about making sure we can do that for longer periods.”

Popovic admitted the loss of midfield general Aaron Mooy in the seventh minute after hitting his head on the ground in a clumsy Manny Muscat challenge didn’t help his side’s cause.

“Possibly it did have an effect. It shouldn’t really but maybe that disrupted us a little and put us off their game and they got back in the game,” he said.

Mooy looked dazed and confused as he was helped off the field by a trainer but Popovic said the Englishman was in good spirits after the game.

“I just briefly spoke to him at half-time and he was smiling and happy so for me that’s a good sign that he’s okay but the medical staff will have a look at him and assess him,” he said.

Popovic added of referee Jarred Gillett’s decision not to award Brendon Santalab a penalty in the 85th minute after tangling with Phoenix skipper Andrew Durante: “When I looked at it I thought he could have given it but he didn’t and we can’t change that.”

Wellignton Phoenix application pleases Ernie Merrick

 

Wellington coach Ernie Merrick has praised his side’s newfound character after overcoming an early deficit to secure a 1-1 draw with the Western Sydney at Pirtek Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts were totally dominant in the opening 25 minutes and led 1-0 after an early Jerome Polenz strike, but the Phoenix rallied with a goal to Jeremy Brockie on the hour to steal a point.

“It (character) is something we’ve been talking about, they’re well aware they finished at the bottom of the league last (season) and didn’t do very well on the road at all,” Merrick said.

“I thought they did well. Once we knocked the ball around with Carlos (Hernandez), Vince (Lia), Manny (Muscat) and Jason it made a huge difference to our team.

“It’s about playing football and trying to stop the long ball playing out from the back and to their credit they were first class.

“Before you can improve with your feet, you’ve got to improve upstairs.

“I thought last week we should have ground out a draw and this week we did it, that’s a big improvement regarding mental toughness.”

The Scotsman admitted his side could have been three goals down after half an hour of sustained Wanderers dominance that saw Stein Huysegems substituted for midfielder Jason Hicks.

“He (Huysegems) did nothing wrong but I needed another midfielder,” Merrick explained.

“We were getting beaten in midfield. If it hadn’t been for Andrew (Durante), Ben (Sigmund) and Glenn (Moss) I think we would have been down a couple more goals.

“Jason made a big difference, once we started to get a grip of the midfield it changed and at half-time I was able to bring on Paul Ifill.

“I thought we could have stolen another goal but we’re happy to go away with a draw.”

The former Melbourne Victory coach admitted his players are still finding their feet after a lack of quality pre-season hit-outs.

“I’ve discovered a few new things about being with a club like the Phoenix, it’s very hard to get pre-season games of quality,” he said.

“Most teams had 13-15 good quality pre-season games, we had nine and really only five were good quality.

“I feel as though we’re still five or six games still off of our best football. We had a lot of injuries coming into pre-season and they’re all coming good now.

“It’s not a work in progress, it’s something we’re going to have to improve every week.”

Skipper Durante added of his side’s gutsy display on the road: “It was difficult. We were just getting crucified out wide [in the first 25 minutes]. (Youssouf) Hersi was having a field day out there. It took us a while to get to grips with the game.

“We were much better in the second half, we got on the ball, we knocked the ball around. We created several chances. I think a draw’s a pretty good result.

“I don’t think anyone would have backed us to get anything. You look at all the pundits, the TAB had us at about seven bucks.

“No one’s given us a chance and we’ve got a lot to prove this year so it was a good first-up performance on the road.”

 

Western Sydney 1×1 Wellington Phoenix

 

Western Sydney and Wellington both remain winless in season 2013-14 after playing out a spirited 1-1 draw in front of a vocal 16,294-strong crowd at Pirtek Stadium on Sunday.

The Wanderers were the dominant side early and hit the front in the 15th minute with a powerful strike from Jerome Polenz.

Ernie Merrick’s men worked their way into the contest midway through the opening stanza but Jeremy Brockie’s shot into the side netting on the half-hour was the closest the visitors came to an equaliser before the interval.

Wanderers skipper Michael Beauchamp missed a gilt-edged chance seven minutes into the second half after a dangerous Shinji Ono free kick before Jeremy Brockie equalised on the hour.

Ante Covic saved four shots in four minutes either side of Brockie’s goal to keep the hosts on level terms before Brendon Santalab hit the post with a thunderous strike in the 74th minute.

There was more drama to come with Santalab denied a penalty shout in the 85th minute after becoming tangled with Andrew Durante before Labinot Haliti forced a desperate save from Glenn Moss in the 89th minute.

Ono played well for 64 minutes after being promoted to the starting side while Covic and Youssouf Hersi both played starring roles for the home side.

Brockie, back from international duty with New Zealand, was a constant threat for the visitors while Paul Ifill made a major impact off the bench and Carlos Hernandez also had his moments.

The hosts came close to opening the scoring in the first minute, Leo Bertos saving a Mark Bridge strike with a goal-line clearance after a dangerous cross from Hersi.

But they suffered a blow in the seventh minute when gun midfielder Aaron Mooy landed heavily on his head and had to be replaced after a clumsy challenge from Manny Muscat, who was yellow-carded.

The Wanderers continued to dominate and opened their account when Polenz hammered the ball past Moss from just outside the penalty box after Stein Huysegems headed away a curling corner from Ono.

Tony Popovic’s men stayed on the attack but the tide started to turn when Brockie fired the visitors’ first shot on goal in the 27th minute.

Vince Lia then gave Covic his first nervous moment of the contest with a dangerous cross and Carlos Hernandez fired a shot over the target moments later.

Merrick replaced an angry Huysegems and injected midfielder Jason Hicks into the contest on the hour.

Hicks made an immediate impact, winning the ball in the midfield and finding Brockie who beat Michael Beauchamp and fired on goal and hit the side netting.

Hersi continued to cause major headaches for the Phoenix defence, forcing two good saves from Moss before the break.

Newcastle Jets 0 x 0 Perth Glory

 

The Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory have played out a 0-0 stalemate in sweltering conditions at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets controlled the match throughout and created a number of half chances without being able to convert while the Glory were content to absorb the pressure and attack on the counter.

The Glory were unlucky not to get the all three points as they wasted a couple of clear scoring opportunities.

The Jets took up the impetus in front of a healthy home crowd of 12,383 and instigated a high-pressing game that almost bore fruit when skipper Ruben Zadkovich charged down a clearance from Glory goalkeeper Danny Vukovic only for the ball to ricochet past the near post.

Newcastle continued to apply pressure to the Glory goal with defenders Kew Jaliens and Scott Neville flashing headers narrowly wide of the target from incisive free-kicks into the box from Zadkovich.

The Jets captain looked dangerous on the edge of the box hitting a number of long-range efforts over the crossbar as the sides went to the break deadlocked.

The Glory created the first chance of the second half when Adrian Zahra floated a ball to the back post where Sidnei headed goalward but into the hands of Mark Birighitti.

The Jets wrested back control of proceedings and went close when Sam Gallaway’s cross into the box caught the wind, floated over Vukovic’s head and hit the crossbar, with Taggart blazing the follow-up shot way over the crossbar.

Newcastle engineered a creative attack down the right flank which enabled Scott Neville to fire a low drive that forced a sharp parried save from Vukovic.

Down the other end the Glory looked dangerous on the counter with the speed and skill of Sidnei causing some problems down the right.

Perth should have snatched the lead midway through the second half when Ryan Edwards pounced on an error from substitute centre back Jacob Pepper and fed the ball to Jamie MacLaren who should have buried his one-on-one chance with Birighitti but only managed to shovel his shot into the advancing Newcastle custodian.

Birighitti was forced to make another sharp save just a few moments later when Sidnei fired a vicious long-range effort that had the Newcastle goalkeeper diving to push the shot around the far post.

Newcastle had a late call for a penalty denied when Nathan Burns appeared to have been brought down in the box by a late sliding tackle from Jack Clisby.

Down the other end MacLaren created a scoring shot on the edge of the box only to see his solid strike swallowed up by Birighitti before Sidnei almost snatched the winner in injury time with a swinging corner that was tipped over the bar to ensure both sides settled for a share of the points.

Depois da maratona de jogos, hora da ´respirada´

Depois de disputar um jogo a cada três dias nas últimas cinco rodadas da Série B, finalmente o Ceará dará uma “respirada” nas próximas três rodadas da competição. Após a partida da rodada anterior contra o América/MG, disputada na última sexta-feira, os próximos três jogos do Vovô acontecerão em um intervalo de uma semana.

A sequência do Ceará será: América/RN no dia 26, fora de casa; Atlético/GO, no dia 1º de novembro, também fora; e Sport no dia 9 de novembro, na Arena Castelão.

Estes intervalos foram muito comemorados pelo técnico alvinegro Sérgio Soares, visando recuperar alguns jogadores que estão contundidos, como o zagueiro Potiguar, o meia Rogerinho e o atacante Lulinha, como recuperar o elenco fisicamente.

“O intervalo de jogos vai ajudar. Com estes jogos mais espaçados, com semana cheia, para recuperar jogadores, treinar, melhorarmos a nossa condição, seja técnica, física ou psicológica, para se trabalhar, recuperar os jogadores e fazer grandes jogos nos fins de semana”.

O treinador do Vovô descreveu o drama vivido pelo clube antes da partida da última sexta feira, contra o América/MG, a reta final da maratona.

“Jogamos com o Paraná em casa, viajamos, enfrentamos a Chapecoense, não fizemos praticamente nada em relação a treinos entre o jogo do América/MG, para que tivéssemos uma condição boa para suportar o desgaste. E não falo só do jogo, mas de viagem, que acumula. O desgaste da partida sente 48 horas depois, acumula com uma viagem de sete horas”.

Precaução

Um exemplo claro da maratona de jogos recente vivida pelo Vovô foi o caso de Magno Alves, que deixou no campo no intervalo da partida contra a Chapecoense, pelo desgaste físico.

“Naquele momento eu disse pro treinador que não dava mais. Não adiantaria tentar fazer o que não conseguiria, e até prejudicar a equipe no jogo. A sequência dos jogos era muito forte e tínhamos essa partida em casa com o América. Foi um momento que pensei em não me lesionar e prejudicar a equipe para a sequência”.

“Famoso Quem?” é cancelado pelo SBT; equipe grava a final

Programa terá final antecipada

Lançado como grande divulgação para concorrer com o “Legendários”, da Record, o “Famoso Quem?” teve seu fim abreviado pelo SBT.

O programa, que conta em seu elenco Thammy Miranda, Paulinho Serra, Lola Melnick, Diego Ramiro, Marcelo Boaff e Bruna Tang, teve sua finalíssima gravada nesta sexta (18), bem antes do esperado.

Segundo o jornalista Ricardo Feltrin, o cancelamento se deve por não atingir as expectativas de audiência do canal. Esperava-se que o reality musical marcasse, ao menos, 7 pontos na Grande São Paulo, mas os números ficaram na casa dos 5.

O abreviamento da atração pegou de surpresa até mesmo os seus integrantes, que haviam desistido de outros projetos para se dedicarem exclusivamente ao “Famoso Quem?”.

Não se sabe se os membros terão seus contratos rescindidos ou se alguém, além de Lola Melnick, que já é contratada do SBT há algum tempo,  ficarão disponíveis no casting.

Em seu perfil no Instagram, Thammy confirmou que gravou ontem a final do reality.

A emissora ainda está definindo o que entrará no lugar do “Famoso Quem?” nas próximas semanas. As chances do retorno do “Cine Família” aos sábados são grandes.

Séries “Ironside” e “Welcome to the Family” são canceladas

Após a exibição de apenas três episódios a emissora NBC anunciou o cancelamento das séries estreantes “Welcome to the Family” e “Ironside”.

Baseado na trama de mesmo nome que havia sido exibida nos anos 70, “Ironside” girou em torno de um policial paraplégico que lida com os casos mais complicados do distrito.

Já a comédia “Welcome to the Family” contou a história de Junior, filho de uma família latina, e Molly, filha de uma família irlandesa, que precisam lidar com as diferenças entre seus pais após se casarem.

Cauã Reymond teria traído Grazi Massafera com Isis Valverde

 

A notícia sobre o fim do relacionamento dos atores Cauã Reymond e Grazi Massafera vai se transformando numa grande polêmica.

Isso porque, segundo a colunista Gisele Vitória, da revista “IstoÉ”, a separação de Cauã e Grazi se deu por conta de um suposto affair do ator com outra atriz da TV Globo, Isis Valverde.

Os dois teriam se conhecido durante as gravações da minissérie “Amores Roubados”. Em uma entrevista recente, Isis chegou a fazer elogios a Cauã.

“O romance com Cauã é a coisa mais linda. Ele é o homem da vida dela e ela, a mulher da vida dele. Vamos mostrar que amar tem um preço. É apaixonante. Estou entregue”, falou.

Vale lembrar que a atriz é noiva do produtor Tom Reis.

A assessoria de Cauã Reymond e Grazi Massafera não fala sobre o assunto.

Já o ator se pronunciou pelo Facebook, apenas ironizando a informação do colunista Ancelmo Góes, do jornal “O Globo”: “Acabaram de nos separar mais uma vez, rs…”.

 

Ibope aponta 2013 como o pior ano da Globo

Desde 2003, a emissora carioca – ainda líder isolada – perde telespectadores.

Ainda líder isolada de audiência, Globo deve fechar 2013 com o pior ano de ibope. No horário comercial, das 7h às 0h, a emissora carioca tinha em 2003, uma média de 21 pontos na Grande São Paulo. Dez anos depois, alcança apenas 14 pontos.

No PNT, dez anos atrás, a média era de 23 pontos. Este ano deve terminar com 16.
