Football Federation Australia and the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) today announced that the Socceroos will meet the Brazilian Men’s National Football team, “The Seleção”, in an international friendly match at the Estadio Nacional Mané Garrincha Stadium, in Brasilia, Brazil on Saturday 7 September 2013 (kick-off 4:15pm local; Sunday 8 September 5:15am AEST).
This will be the seventh match between Brazil and Australia at senior men’s international level after the teams last met at the Allianz Arena in the group phase of the 2006 FIFA World Cup where Brazil were 2-0 winners.
Socceroos Head Coach Holger Osieck is looking forward to the match as the countdown to the 2014 FIFA World Cup continues.
“With less than twelve months to go to the World Cup this match is a great opportunity for us to get an impression of the environment we will face,” said Osieck.
“Brazil is one of the top teams in the world and a great challenge for us as we prepare ourselves for the World Cup.
“This match will be a valuable learning experience for us both on and off the field,” concluded Osieck.
The Socceroos are currently ranked 40th in the FIFA World Rankings whilst the Brazilians are currently 9th (as of 4 July 2013).
The match between the Socceroos and Brazil will be broadcast live and exclusive on Fox Sports.
